Supermarket Sweep

It's no secret that Dustin and I haven't exactly mastered an "adult life"- Sure we have a house, and full time jobs, but we haven't quite been able to get in a routine when it comes to the more routine parts of adulthood- cooking, cleaning, laundry, and so on...

We somehow get it all done (for the most part) but people aren't exactly breaking down our door for tips on how we do it.

But that could all change after I show you our top (only) tip: A grocery list.

I know, crazy concept right? But really...I think this is a good one. After years of writing practically the same thing on our weekly list, invariably forgetting a staple food, or struggling to remember everything we need...We found a better way:
A customized, printable grocery list.

It has all of our typical needs on it, as well as some space to write special items. Now all we have to do is print one off, and put it up on the fridge. As we run out of things, we circle them, building our list until it's time to shop. Then it's a breeze at the store, because the list is organized to match the order of the aisle of our local grocery store. We shop faster, and more efficiently, reducing forgotten items, or running around the store trying to satisfy a jumbled list.

Genius, right? Well yes, but I can assure you, we didn't invent this system. If you google around, you can find tons of templates to give you a start. But even though it's an old idea....I'm proud to have a "trick of the trade" that we have actually successfully implemented.

And of course, after all that bragging, I'm happy to share our list with you. Feel free to download and give it a shot. You'll be a savvy shopper in no time!

Wouldn't it be nice: April

Finish What I Start.

OH...the irony of this month's resolution. How funny (sad) is it that after making such a goal, then I can't even drag myself online for a quick blog to explain it. But maybe that's why there's the need for the resolution in the first place. We just always seem to have a ton going on, and none of it ever quite gets done. I constantly have half completed projects laying around the dining (craft) room, the house is in a perpetual state of almost clean (ok, that might actually be exaggerating a bit), and there just seem to be loose ends everywhere. I thought that this resolution would encourage me to get off my bum a little bit more, and push to actually complete some of the stuff that is stuck "in progress".

And...well...it sort of has...

...but not that much...

I could make excuses, but bottom line, it just hasn't been month of non-stop productivity. Sure, we've made some progress- Dustin really got moving on the kitchen remodel, I cleaned out my closet and organized my room, but there is still no shortage of opportunities to check more things off our unofficial list of projects.

But no sense in dwelling on on what could have been...As the days get longer and warmer, I'm finding more of a spring in my step, and a bit more motivation to get moving on some things that would otherwise fall by the wayside.

So yes, a little bit of a slow start...but we're cruising now, and I'm excited to start crossing off some projects soon. (I figure if I keep it vague, no one can hold me to too much!)

What about you? Am I the only one with big dreams for Spring? Does time tend to get away from you this time of year? (or maybe all the months just seem to fly by...)

Published Authors

When we started this blog over three years ago, I never dreamed our online rants would end up on the printed page...But lo and behold- Bowdenisms has made into not one, but three books. Witness:
Ok, ok, you got me- they're not real books. I mean, they are real, in that they have words, and pictures, and pages, and covers. But...I printed them myself, using an online service. So no, I still don't technically know the thrill of seeing my words in print, but I do have a permanent record for the last few years of Bowdenisms. You know, in case blogger gets bought out by aliens, or the internet is replaced by ummmm something awesome that we don't even know about.

I'm not sure if we'll look at them much, but it's nice to have a more tactile version of our web writings. And now we can boast that we've been published (even if it was self-published).

P.s. The books are from Blurb.com. We gave it a shot because we had a Groupon, and I'm very satisfied with the results, but parts of the process that were a bit of a struggle. I had some issues with their program, and parts of my book were deleted....sad face!  I'll spare you the details of my drama but I have to mention that the phrase "I'm sorry you choose to feel that way, Courtney" was uttered at one point. Slightly offensive at the time, pretty much hilarious now. So it wasn't exactly a perfect first experience, but since this purchase I've made several more books with Blurb, and have had nothing but fabulous results. All's well that ends well!
